DOTHAN—As the National Peanut Festival begins today, authorities are keeping safety in mind as the NPF prepares to welcome throngs of people.
Important: ONLY CLEAR BAGS ARE ALLOWED. Absolutely NO WEAPONS are allowed. See a full list of prohibited items here.
Capt. Tom Davis from the Dothan Police Department said officers will patrol the midway for safety, and officers from the traffic division will direct traffic on Highway 231 entering the festival. Officers will remain in the fairgrounds after gates close.
If you see something concerning, call 911 in case of an emergency; for other concerns, call the police non-emergency line at 334-793-0215
Law enforcement and medical staff took a security tour of the fairgrounds before the fair begins today.
The safety coordinator said five new rides will debut this year.
Remember: rides have height restrictions. It's a good idea to measure up children before you leave to make sure you know what rides children can enjoy.
It's the 80th year of the National Peanut Festival: make sure to enjoy it safely!
