COFFEE COUNTY— The Coffee County Sheriff's Office reminds you to protect your money and use caution against bank jugging.
Bank jugging is when criminals watch people withdrawing cash from ATMs or banks and then follow them to rob them or break into their vehicles.
As citizens may be withdrawing larger amounts of money ahead of the holidays, be careful while you're getting cash.
Here are some tips:
- BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS: Look out for suspicious behavior or people who may be watching you as you enter the bank or go to an ATM.
- SECURE YOUR MONEY IMMEDIATELY: Don't flash cash or count your cash publicly.
- SECURE YOUR VEHICLES: Don't leave large amounts of money or bank envelopes in your vehicle, and lock your vehicle regularly.
- AVOID LARGE WITHDRAWALS: If possible, avoid carrying large amounts of money.
- DON'T OPENLY CARRY BANK BAGS OR BANK ENVELOPES: Openly showing bank envelopes could make criminals believe you have a large amount of cash.
- WATCH FOR PEOPLE WHO MAY BE FOLLOWING YOU.
- IF YOU THINK YOU'RE BEING FOLLOWED: Drive to a public place or to your nearest police station, or contact authorities, describe your location and keep driving.
