HOUSTON COUNTY:     This is a WDHN news story from two years ago concerning the appointment process to the Southeast Healthcare Authority.


Two years ago, all was worked out because the Southeast Healthcare Authority Board Member Taylor Knight showed character and integrity.


Then two years later, the Houston County Commission got the legislative delegation to pass a law giving the voters the opportunity to vote to change the appointment process.

ON ALL LOCAL AMENDMENTS


And it comes to one issue. Because Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe and D3 Commissioner Ricky Herring do not get their way, then they want the appointment procedure changed. They are power hungry, and this is a power grab led by those two.


Since 1949 the appointment process has worked. It was not until D3 Ricky Herring, who double dips from Houston County as a Commissioner and Deputy Sheriff (combined salaries over $ 100,000.00 a year plus vehicle for unlimited use) came on board and Brandon Shoupe followed Herring's lead has this come a problem.


Leaving the employment of 3,000 people up to the members of this Commission would be very dangerous for healthcare, employment, financial sustainability of this county and the hospital.


The very department the Ricky Herring serves; in the Houston County Sheriff's Office, the deputies do not trust Herring or Brandon Shoupe.


D3 Commissioner Ricky Herring tapes his conversations. So always be aware. He has recordings of his conversations secretly recorded with fellow Memphis Baptist Church Deacon Taylor Knight and other conversations. Herring has clearly edited the tapes of over an hour conversation to just over 5 minutes to attempt to make him look good. But he has failed to release the full unedited conversations.


Herring's failure to release the full conversations indicate that he is not transparent and he is being deceptive.
