DOTHAN—Southeast Health is welcoming two new members of the Houston County Health Care Authority Board and highlighting the contributions from the outgoing board members.
Dr. Donavon Wewers, MD, has served in multiple leadership positions at the Medical Center. He was the president of the Medical Staff from 2015 to 2017 and a member of the hospital board.
Neil Holloway is the owner of Brian Holloway Carpet One in Dothan. He has over 30 years of experience as a successful businessman in the flooring industry.
Holloway replaces former Dothan Mayor and current real estate appraiser Chester Sowell. Sowell gave 25 years of service to the health system, and he's served as the board chairman for 9 years.
Dr. Wewers replaces Dr. Walter C. Young, a well-respected OB/GYN who practiced at Women's Medical Center in Dothan for nearly 40 years. He was a past president of the Medical Staff, and he has volunteered on the board since 2005.
The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) became a reality under Sowell's and Dr. Young's tenures. They were crucial in the renaming to Southeast Health, which brought the Medical Center, Medical Clinic, Foundation, Statera and ACOM under one brand.
They helped oversee $250 million in capital improvement projects in the last years without new debt, developed a Medical Park for outpatient service growth, service line expansions, program developments, and numerous national recognitions for quality.
"We want to thank Sowell and Dr. Young for their tireless years of service to not only Southeast Health, but to the community," a statement from Southeast Health read. "We also look forward to many more years of success working with Dr. Wewers and Holloway on the board."
