OZARK—If you drive down any back road or country lane, you’re likely to see more than one cemetery—while it may be easy to overlook these final resting places, cemeteries are repositories of history and culture.

Learn more about the macabre and unusual with Mollie Smith Waters, an Alabama Humanities Alliance professor of composition, literature, theater and speech. In her program "Alabama Cemeteries: Common Symbols and Architecture," explore the rich history and culture to be learned from Alabama’s cemeteries.

She will discuss common symbols and architecture you may see if you go wandering in a cemetery; plus, she’ll talk about some strange and famous cemeteries and their inhabitants.

Learn more about symbols, secret organizations, epitaphs, grave styles, and more!

Visit the Ozark Dale County Library on Thursday, October 31, from 2 - 3 p.m. It’s a Halloween afternoon you’re sure to remember!
