ALABAMA: In County Commission races, following the General election, the winners take office immediately after being elected. That is because historically defeated commissioners would drain the money. Folllowing the General Election, November 11, 2026, all new commissioners will take office. All assume the budget passed by the old members of the commissions. The budget is put in place in September, and they take office in November. So new commissioners have to live with the financial condition left by the old commission.
All other offices take office on January 12. Such as Houston County Coroner remains with Robert Byrd until January 12, 2027, which is same as Governor and all other elected offices. Kay Ivey remains Alabama Governor until January 12, 2027 when Tommy Tuberville will take office. Kendall Glover will take office as Coroner on January 12, 2027.
