COWARTS-DOTHAN: Last evening Houston County 911 dispatched multiple law enforcement units to Respite Lane off Glenn Lawrence Road to a domestic call. The call was an assault and disorderly.
Responding units were advised by Houston County 911 there was a shot fired and a male subject was in possession of a firearm.
Ashford Police, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Kinsey Police responded. Not sure but Webb Police might have responded.
Ashford Rescue also responded. Reports are threats made if law enforcement arrived as in shots would be fired – or subject would take his life or suicide by law enforcement.
Ashford Rescue was instructed to stage on Glenn Lawrence Road. Houston County Patrol Supervisor activated the Sheriff SWAT Team. This incident began about 9:00 PM and an arrest was made around 2:00 AM. The female and all persons had been removed from the residence prior to the Sheriff SWAT Team striking and entering the residence.
Situations like this, when all removed from the residence, time is on the side of law enforcement. While NO ONE, NO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER wants the subject to take their own life, and there is nothing worth taking your own life, once everyone is safe, the law enforcement officers take their time and make sure all law enforcement officers go home safe.
In this case. subject in custody and all law enforcement officers are safe. And if the subject had exited firing his weapon, he would have forced officers to do what they DO NOT EVER want to do, which is eliminate the threat by the officers having to use deadly physical force.
