HOUSTON COUNTY: Up for re-election/election is Place 2, Houston County School Board.
Incumbent Houston County School Board Member Scott Long is seeking re-election. Long, a graduate of Cottonwood High School is a retired Captain of Dothan Police Department. While serving on the board the Houston County School system was ranked number 1 out of 67 County School systems across the State of Alabama.
Houston County Commissioner and Chairmann of Houston County Commission the registered voters of each Commission District are voted on, to include residents within the city limits of Dothan, and Houston County Commission Chairman is voted on county wide, to include the registered voters of the City of Dothan.
Houston County School Board is the registered voters outside the city limits of Dothan, and in District 2. The school board somewhat follows Distrct 2 commissioner but not exactly. The Hodgesville are through Cottonwood and towards Ashford is sorta the district.
The Houston County School system, under Supt. Brandy White and this Houston County School Board has done wonders in Houston County. Ranking towards the bottom is having money, the school system has upgraded facilities and studies, along with a career academy. Amazing what can be done with good leadership and the ability to manage funds.
