HEADLAND:     08:44 AM   Henry County 911 dispatched Headland Fire – Rescue, Headland Police and Henry County Sheriff Deputies to a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

The accident location was Highway 431 North and Henry County 99 in the southbound lanes. As a Nissan driver crossed the railroad tracks their car went off the right side of the road and wrapped around the light pole.

A Headland Fire – Rescue EMS unit was across the street fueling up at the time of the impact.

As emergency units arrived, it was discovered the driver was trapped. The car was literally wrapped around the utility pole dashboard and the driver’s feet was trapped under the crushing dashboard.

Headland Fire – EMS, joined by a off Duty Abbeville Fire – Rescue member and Headland Police Officers worked until around 9:40 AM when the patient was finally extricated. The lone driver was conscious and alert and talking to the firemen/paramedics.

This was a major extrication incident performed by Headland Fire – Rescue, and they did an excellent job.

Headland Director of Public Safety/Police Chief Mark Jones was on the scene.

Headland Police is in charge of the accident investigation.
