A Dothan man was arrested just days before the New Year in connection with an investigation involving the alleged financial exploitation of a disabled adult.
According to court records, Alan Burgans was arrested on December 30 and charged with first-degree financial exploitation of an adult with a disability.
Sgt. David Saxon with the Dothan Police Department told WDHN that the investigation began in early September 2025 after a disabled individual reported money missing from their bank account.
Public court documents allege Burgans took approximately $2,892 from the victim. An arrest warrant was issued shortly after the investigation began; however, Burgans was not taken into custody until late December.
Authorities have not released details regarding the victim’s specific disability or Burgans’ relationship to the victim, though police confirmed the two were known to each other.
Jail records show Burgans was released from the Houston County Jail the same day of his arrest after posting a $30,000 bond.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
