PLANNING AN EVENT IN DOWNTOWN DOTHAN? PLEASE READ.
The City of Dothan hosts numerous events throughout the year, and we value the organizations, businesses, and individuals who contribute to our downtown community.
As downtown continues to grow, we want to remind everyone that there is an established process for scheduling and approving events in public spaces throughout the Downtown District.
LOCATIONS INCLUDE:
• Porter Park
• Wadlington Park
• Pioneer Park
• Foster Street
• St. Andrews Street
• All other public spaces and streets within the Downtown District
All organized events at these locations must be coordinated through the City of Dothan Performing Arts Department BEFORE they are announced, advertised, or vendor spaces are sold.
WHAT GOES INTO EVENT APPROVAL?
Several factors must be reviewed, including:
• Availability of the location and existing event schedules
• Impact on downtown businesses and their operations
• Traffic, parking, street closures, and emergency access
• Police, fire, security personnel, and associated costs
• Required permits, licenses, insurance, and City approvals
• City staffing, equipment, and operational requirements
IMPORTANT REMINDER
An event being advertised on social media does not mean the event has been approved or that the location has been reserved.
We have seen events promoted and vendor spaces offered for sale before the necessary arrangements and approvals have been secured.
Vendors should verify that an event has an approved location before making payments or commitments.
Our responsibility is to ensure events are properly coordinated, existing businesses are considered, public resources are managed responsibly, and downtown operations are not unnecessarily disrupted.
