HOUSTON COUNTY

A former Houston County volunteer fire chief has been arrested and charged with dozens of theft-related offenses following a months-long investigation.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Anthony Westbrook Sr., former fire chief of the Lucy Fire Department. Deputies charged Westbrook with one count of first-degree theft and 67 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.

According to investigators, Westbrook is accused of stealing more than $26,000 from the Lucy Fire Department, a small volunteer fire organization serving the east end of Houston County.

Sheriff’s officials said the investigation spanned approximately three months and was concluded just hours before Westbrook’s arrest.

At this time, authorities have not released details regarding when Westbrook left his position with the Lucy Fire Department. The case remains under investigation.
