DOTHAN: Just after 9:00 p.m. on October 12, 2026, a Dothan police officer saw a vehicle commit a traffic infraction on Honeysuckle Road near the Wells Fargo building. The officer activated his lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver did not pull over.
The vehicle tried to elude the officer for about three miles before stopping in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Fortner Street. During the pursuit, as speeds reached 55 miles per hour, the officer saw a small bag thrown from the vehicle. Officers quickly located the bag and determined it contained marijuana.
As officers were giving commands for the driver to exit the vehicle, another vehicle pulled up. A woman got out and began obstructing officers as they tried to get the driver out safely. She was identified as Daphney Arpreatrae McCray, 49, of Dothan. McCray had to be restrained when she began actively resisting officers’ attempts to detain her.
Once McCray was detained, the driver, identified as Jakorey Keshaun Corbitt, 27, of Dothan, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a Glock handgun. Police later learned that McCray is Corbitt’s mother.
Corbitt was charged with one felony count of Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He was booked into the Houston County Jail.
McCray was charged with Obstructing Governmental Operations and Resisting Arrest. She was booked into the Dothan City Jail.
