US: Toyota is recalling about 30,978 model year 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid vehicles in the U.S. because a software problem could cause them to lose power while driving at high speeds.

According to Toyota and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a software bug in the vehicle’s electronic control unit can trigger an error. The fault may cause the plug-in hybrid system to suddenly reduce power or shut down completely, which raises the risk of a crash.
Toyota dealers will update the software for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by early December 2026.
Owners can find out whether their vehicle is included by entering the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into Toyota’s recall lookup tool or the NHTSA recall database.
The recall is the latest for the popular SUV. In 2023, Toyota recalled nearly 1.9 million RAV4s from the 2013-2018 model years over batteries that could come loose and cause a fire.
