DOTHAN: I have to admit something: I never really learned much about emojis. In fact, I rarely even ventured into the emoji section of my phone. I was too busy trying to figure out how to use the phone itself!
Let’s face it, some of us aren’t exactly the tech titans we see among today’s younger generation. Kids can work a phone or computer like they’re running NASA, while the rest of us are just trying to answer a call without accidentally hanging up on somebody!
And believe me, I’ve come a long way. I’m talking about the days when having a telephone meant a landline attached to the wall. And in the early years? We had a party line! That’s right, you might have to wait your turn to make a call, and if someone else was using the line, you were out of luck!
Now, here we are in a world where a tiny picture on your phone can carry an entire message. But apparently, there’s a special meaning behind every emoji, and using the wrong one could send a message you never intended!
Apparently, there are actual websites where you can look up what emojis mean. Who knew?
Technology has certainly come a long way, and while it’s amazing what we can do with a phone or computer these days, some of us are still trying to keep up with all the changes.
So, if you receive an unexpected emoji from me, please be patient. There’s a good chance I meant well, even if my little digital picture says something entirely different!
Remember, my texting emojis strategy is pretty simple, pick an emoji, press send and pray it doesn’t mean something inappropriate. I’m old enough to remember when a peach was just a peach.
The lesson of the day? You can teach an old dog new tricks, but sometimes that dog would rather pick up the landline!
