COWARTS:       At the request of Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland and members of Cowarts Town Council, the Houston County Commission is set to approve SAMMY BAGWELL MEMORIAL BLVD.

Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland asked D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams if the Houston County Road and Bridge could make the signs for the designation of SAMMY BAGWELL MEMORIAL BLVD. The designation will be placed on North Broad Street in honor and memory of the late Sammy Bagwell.

The name of the road will remain North Broad Street, but it will be featured in the memory of Sammy Bagwell.

Sammy Bagwell was a product of Cowarts, Alabama. He was a friend to everyone in the community and a regular at Broadway Cafe in Ashford most every morning. He always took time to talk to everyone, joke and play around with people, and was everyone’s friend. His death was sudden and unexpected on November 20, 2024. Everyone always spoke kind words about Sammy Bagwell.

After his death, and in a conversation between Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland and D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams, the process was put into works. After the approval of the designation there will be a sign erected jointly by the family of Sammy Bagwell, D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams and the Houston County Commission, along with Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland and members of the Cowarts Town Council.
