Danny Dewayne Wood passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, in Macon, Georgia, surrounded by love. Born on November 24, 1953, in Ashford, Alabama, to William and Ettis Mae Wood, Danny lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family.
Danny was a proud graduate of Ashford High School and went on to attend Wallace Community College before transferring to the University of Alabama, where his passion for Alabama football took root. After beginning his career with the United States Postal Service in Dothan, he followed his brother Cecil into the automobile sales industry. This decision launched a successful 24-year career in automotive sales and management, spanning dealerships across Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. A born salesman with a gift for connecting with people, Danny excelled in his work, eventually rising to the position of General Manager. Although health challenges led to an early retirement, he always dreamed of returning to work, “selling cars.”
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ettis Mae Wood; his siblings, William Wood, Lois Wood Sallas, Charles Wood, Cecil Wood, and Otis Wood; and his beloved wife, Kay Smith Wood.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Jon) Marsh of Caldwell, Idaho; his son, Jason (Melissa) Wood of Headland, Alabama; his stepsons, Justin (Kimberly) Smith of Thomasville, Georgia, and Rick (Kristy) Dunn of Dahlonega, Georgia. He was the proud grandfather of JP Wood, Emily Wood, Alison Wood, Baylee (Jake) Marsh Thornton, Tucker Marsh, Payton Marsh, Mary Quinn Marsh, and Colton Marsh. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Wood of Dahlonega, Georgia, and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will remember him with fondness.
In his later years, Danny found joy in spending time with his brother Joe in Dahlonega. He continued to cheer on his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide, indulge his lifelong love for Pepsi, and, most importantly, celebrate the love and accomplishments of his family. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, humor, and an unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
A Memorial Service to honor Danny’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel on Hartford Highway in Dothan, Alabama. Friends and family are invited to come together to share memories and celebrate a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the American Stroke Association. Danny’s family would like to express gratitude to the caring staff of Affinis Hospice and Bolingreen Health and Rehab in Macon, Georgia.
