MIDLAND CITY AL: There has been some discussion in Midland City regarding the new mayor and several city council members wanting to revert to past practices.
Several years ago Midland City eliminated full-time dispatchers and transitioned to the Ozark-Dale County 911 system for dispatching law enforcement, fire, and EMS calls in the Midland City Area. This was a positive change.
By having Ozark – Dale County 911 handle all dispatch operations, with all agencies operating on the same radio system, emergency response has become much smoother for the citizens they serve. The communications system is efficient, and large-scale incidents allow other agencies to hear the calls and respond if needed.
However, according to circulated information, “some” members of the city council want to move backward and take over the dispatching services. Regardless of their decision, 911 calls will still be answered by Ozark – Dale County 911 and then forwarded to Midland City or the appropriate agency for response.
If the Mayor and Midland City Council decide to reverse this progress and take dispatching back in-house, RSN will present the mayor and City Council with the MASTER OF BAD DECISIONS AWARD!
