HOUSTON COUNTY: 2:50 PM The men and women of Houston County Rescue got some surprising news in the FY 2026-2027 budget year.
Without any advance warning, the Houston County Commission slashed all funding to Houston County Rescue Unit. They have been funded by Houston County $ 20,000.00 per year, for many – many years. This budget year the five members of the Houston County Commission slashed the entire funding and never had the respect to tell the leadership of the rescue unit until SLASHED.
Houston County Rescue, formed in the 1960’s, is a water search and rescue. Just this month the volunteer members left their jobs and responded to a pond in Houston County on a drowning. The divers went into the water and found the deceased, recovering the loved one.
The voluteer members donated their time. Some even closed their business to respond ASAP and begin diving.
ALL WHILE, Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe draws six figure salary, health insurance, retirement benefits while Vice President of Tri-State Graphics and bought Adventureland in his four years.
And in Chairman Brandon Shoupe first four years, D2 Tracy Adams first four years, D4 James Ivey first four years, D3 Ricky Herring eight years, has Houston County upside down to almost $ 14 million dollars.
D1 Curtis Harvey has been a Houston County Commissioner for 20 years. Serving under retired Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver, Houston County was never placed in this major upside down situation.
