Mrs. Helen S. Houston went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Hartford Health Care. She was 83.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Reverend Teddy Ward officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time.
Helen was born on September 21, 1942 in Phenix City, AL to the late D.C. and Tommie Davis Smith. She loved spending time with all her family, but especially her grandkids, being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys in life. Helen loved hearing about their lives, their plans, and everything that was important to them. She had a connection with each of them, and they always knew they had someone in their corner.
In addition to her parents; husband, Colonel (Ret.) G.C. Houston; daughter, Bambi Voss Carter; and brother Mickey Smith, all preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Kym Jordan Adams (Glen); son, Rick Voss (Kim); grandchildren: Jessica Harper (Jeremy) Ryan Jordan (Jessica) Jared Jordan (Clara) Aaron Carter (Tori) and Raina Voss; great grandchildren: Jayleigh Jordan, Branson Harper, Jude Jordan, Braxton Harper, Jameson Jordan, Zoey Jordan, Owen Jordan, Liam Carter, SJ Carter; sister, Patricia Wilson; sister in law, Donetta Smith and numerous nieces nephews and other extended family.
