Dawn Leslee (Brown) Osattin, with her beloved husband by her side, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 4, 2026.
Dawn made her grand entrance into this world in Boston, Massachusetts, to Steven and Jill (Spooner) Brown on November 5, 1979. She was in such a hurry to enter the world that her dad had to help the only nurse present with her delivery. She was raised and educated in Malden, Massachusetts.
One of the kindest people you could ever meet, Dawn cherished her family and friends and treasured the relationships she built throughout her life. She was the middle of five children, and her siblings were among her closest friends growing up. Together, they made countless memories—some tender and loving, and others that would have them laughing for years to come. Those memories will remain treasured by her siblings and will live on in the stories, laughter, and love they carry with them.
Dawn met the love of her life, Scott Osattin, through her church’s youth group,beginning a beautiful journey that would span nearly 29 years of marriage. From their earliest days together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to one another.
Through every season of life, they shared its joys and carried its challenges side by side, trusting in God and in the love they shared. Their journey together took them from Massachusetts to homes in Rhode Island, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia, before they ultimately settled in Dothan, Alabama.
Before her health declined, Dawn traveled to churches as a gospel singer, pushing her shy nature aside to share her beautiful voice and, more importantly, her love for Jesus with others. Her faith was not simply something she believed—it was something she lived and shared generously with those around her.
Dawn’s love for children was like none other. From an early age, she babysat, cared for, and loved countless children in her church and community. In 1996, she was honored with the United Way’s Champions of Change Outstanding Individual Youth Award for her work supporting a child with developmental disabilities and other medical needs. She and Scott later continued that calling by working in a children’s home and compassionately opening their home to foster children. The children who passed through Dawn’s life were never simply part of her past; each one held a special and lasting place in her heart.
In 2012, Dawn met her soul dog, Nigel. Throughout her health journey, he brought light to some of her darkest days and remained her loyal companion until his passing in February 2025. His place in Dawn’s heart was one of the many reminders of the extraordinary love she had for the animals and people fortunate enough to be part of her life.
Dawn also found a special community through her love of Webkinz, where she met some of her best, truest, and lifelong friends. What began as a shared interest grew into friendships that became an important and cherished part of her life.
Dawn leaves behind her husband, Scott Osattin, of Dothan, AL; her parents, Steve and Jill Brown of Lucedale, MS; her paternal grandfather, Rev. Richard L. Brown of Mississippi; her sister, Shanda (Zachary) Pepin of New Hampshire; her brothers, Rev. Stephan (Hannah) Brown of California, Jonathan Brown of New Hampshire, and Rev. Michael (Polly) Brown of Bolivia; her “littles,” nieces Genevieve, Abigail, and Olive, and nephews Austin, Sean and his mother Siobhan Murphy, and Jonah; her fur babies, Potato Chip (Chip) and Sunny Delight (Sunny); and her many beloved aunts, including Darla “Dawn,” her namesake, as well as uncles, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and friend, Bernice Osattin; her father- in-law, Al Osattin; her maternal grandparents, Willie Lee and Verna Mae Spooner; her paternal grandmother, Olive Jean Brown; her “Auntie” Kari (Brown) Hicks; as well as other beloved aunts and uncles.
Dawn leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, kindness, laughter, and compassion. She touched the lives of so many through her voice, her love for children, her devotion to family and friends, and her unwavering love for Jesus. Though she will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved Dawn can find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, no longer in pain, and is with her Lord and Savior and those who went before her.
Dawn’s arrangements are being entrusted to Ward-Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan, AL.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
