TAYLOR: The regular scheduled meeting of the City Council for Taylor was held this evening. Mayor Robert Lamb was reported to be physically “sick” and was not in attendance.
The council did not have their agenda’s for the meeting until they walked in for the meeting. They have said months ago they requested the agendas and documentation be emailed the Friday before the meeting. That does not happen. Mayor Pro Tem Kenny Thompson, who had to act as Mayor, stated in the meeting that he had to call the City Clerk, Sophia Rogers about 2 PM to get the agenda emailed to him.

The council introduced several ordinances and resolutions tonight that were not on the agenda. One dealt with the hiring of the Police Chief. The ordinance was the majority of the council had to vote on the hiring of the police chief. Councilman Kelly said the ordinance was not needed, that it has always been the council votes on the police chief. One fellow councilman asked Mr. Kelly had he voted on the last two police chief’s in which he replied NO. Then it was quickly quipped thus the reason for the ordinance making it clear.!!!!
Several other ordinances and resolutions the council attempted to pass were roadblocked by Councilman Kelly. The items were not on the agenda, because as voiced in the meeting Mayor Robert Lamb had them removed from the agenda. To suspend the rules and add them to the agenda requires unanimous approval from the council. Councilman Kelly voted NAY which stopped them from being dealt with at this meeting. However they will automatically appear on the agenda the next meeting.

It was obvious that Councilman Jerry Kelly was Mayor Robert Lamb’s puppet. Mr. Kelly is respected, but he is an enabler for the actions of Mayor Robert Lamb.
The four remaining council members accomplised more tonight then the Taylor City Council has accomplised since Noevmber 3, 2025 when Robert Lamb took office. And would have accomplised more if Councilman Kelly had not roadblocked it.
The council was going to address the employment of the City Attorney. The attorney was terminated by Mayor Robert Lamb without consultation with the members of the City Council. That was roadblocked again by Councilman Jerry Kelly. Currently the City of Taylor has no legal representation.
According to persons present at the meeting, Mayor Robert Lamb terminated Attorney Trant Bullard because he did not like the answer Bullard gave to a question.
Tonight was drama free, with the exception of Councilman Jerry Kelly stopping progress.
