Arliene Wilson Swallows, formerly of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on October 1, 2026, in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, at the age of 97.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 PM -2 PM. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery, with Reverend Lynn Smilie Nesbitt officiating. Ward Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Department at First United Methodist Church of Dothan or to the Dothan Humane Society.

Arliene was born in Durham, North Carolina, on July 10, 1929. She graduated from Watts School of Nursing as a registered nurse and worked in the operating room for many years before joining the State of Alabama as a public health school nurse. After retirement, Arliene continued her lifelong commitment to caring for others by volunteering as a home health nurse, helping those in need.

Arliene was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished the time she spent with her family. A woman of strong faith, she was actively involved in her church and community. She had a compassionate heart, a passion for helping others, and a special love for animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Wilson and Nannie Elizabeth Dixon Wilson; her husband, Charles Arnold Swallows; her former husband, E. Floyd Dollar; her sisters, Carolyn Dollar and Margie Lee Beal; and other beloved family members.

Arliene is survived by her daughter, Alicia Cox (Rutledge) granddaughters, Laura Cox and Courtney Cox; niece, Beth Martinez (Rich); nephew, Bob Dollar (Anna); great-nieces, Ashley Martinez, Ashley Marie Varnell, and Melissa Young; great-nephews, Stephen Martinez (Meagan), Melvin Whitehead (Lori), Brandon Dollar, and Eric Dollar.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered prayers, kind words, and expressions of love and support during this difficult time. They also wish to thank the staff at Maggie Valley Nursing Home for the loving care they provided to Arliene over the past two years.

Arliene will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her compassionate spirit, her dedication to serving others, and the love she shared with her family and community. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
