DOTHAN: The special called Dothan Commission set for Friday has been cancelled.
Statement from ALDOT on US-84 in Dothan
The agreement between the City of Dothan and ALDOT was for a short downtown portion of US-84 to be converted to a three-lane configuration, with two lanes for through-traffic and one center turn lane. ALDOT’s experience and expertise indicates that three-lane configurations provide excellent traffic handling and safe operations on similar roadways. The initial plan was to conduct a six-month evaluation, with a cost sharing commitment to return the roadway to four lanes if the City chose to do so. The City on Thursday, May 14, requested that the roadway be returned to its original four-lane configuration. ALDOT will incorporate this change into its ongoing resurfacing project. Until then, the area remains an active construction zone with pavement removal and resurfacing operations ongoing. The final traffic pattern will be a four-lane configuration.
