4/17 UPDATE:

The fire has been contained to an exterior roof, and officials will likely be on the scene for at least another day, as the fire is still smoldering. The roof is reported to possibly be a total loss.

Veterans were taken to Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation center.

Officials confirmed there were no injuries.

Nearby intersections will be closed along with the Veterans Home itself.

Officials said they’re working to bring veterans back as quickly as possible.

The fire is under investigation, but the fire reportedly began somewhere in the attic near a mechanical area.

Coffee County EMA said a huge amount of ambulances responded to help move residents.

 

COFFEE COUNTY:  7:08 PM    There is a working structure fire at the Veterans Home in the New Brockton area off Highway 51 in Coffee County.

They have requested mutual aid assistance fighting the fire and ambulances to respond. Multiple Houston County fire and EMS responding to the mutual aid request.

Evacuations for the 80+ patients there are imminent. Current reports say they’re being moved to a nursing home. School buses and ambulances from all nearby area counties are responding.

Several departments are in route to help fight the fire, which has been difficult to contain.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and there are currently no reports of serious injuries.

10:22 UPDATE 

As of 10:22, crews are still battling the fire. Dothan Fire responded with mutual aid, and sources say Governor Kay Ivey has been notified of the fire at the nearly brand-new Veterans Home. Barry Moore has representatives on the way to the scene.

91 patients have been relocated to a nursing home.
