DOTHAN:    On Tuesday Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba and the Associate Commissioners approved a recomentdation from Dothan City Manager Randy Morris to pay $ 49,000.00 for a study on how to take more money from Dothan Businesses.

Res. No._________Entering into an agreement with PFM Group Consulting, LLC to provide a business license fee study and benchmarking consulting services for a fee of $49,000.00.

Language from within the agreement, which is important for the public to know:

“The City ( Dothan ) desires to retain the professional services of Consultant to provide an independent assessment of its business license ordinances and fee structures, with recomendations for fee adjustments, ordinance modifications, and administrative process improvements ( THE OBJECTIVE ). 

Under the leadership of Dothan City Manager Randy Morris, he is attempting to lay the framework to go up on the business license charged to the backbone of the City of Dothan in businesses which provide jobs for the working class people.

The Governor of the State of Alabama draws a salary of $ 130,000.00 per year. The Governor is the Chief Executive Officer over the entire State of Alabama.

Dothan City Manager Randy Morris draws a salary of $ 225,000.00 per year, plus many benefits, and one heck of a buy out should the Dothan Mayor and Associate Commissioners decide to terminate. No Department Head in the City of Dothan makes less than $ 100,000.00 a year. And some of those department heads they have in positions that they are not always managing their departments.

The backbone of the Dothan Economy are the businesses that provide jobs for people in Dothan. But Randy Morris wants a study to attempt to implement a basis to increase the cost of business license for those businesses to provide jobs.

The City of Dothan is already not business friendly and a major pain to deal with when attempting to put into a business. And none of the leadership of Dothan provides the money to operate a business and provide jobs. All they do, such as Randy Morris, is to suck money from people’s pocket so they can make salaries out of this world for only a four day work week.

Dothan Commissioner D3 Bradley Bedlwell and D4 Dave Stock expresses concern and cautioned this study is not to go up on the people providing jobs.

You know, with the Governor making $ 130,000.00 a year to manage the entire State of Alabama, and Dothan City Manager at $ 225,000.00 a year, there is no study commissioned to look at the department head salaries. And in additon, ride through the parking lots of the Dothan Civic Center and look at how many prime parking places these high paid departments have reserved and for the public to park in places wayyyy out in the parking lot.
