HOUSTON COUNTY: This evening in a regular scheduled Houston County Volunteer Fire Chief Association Meeting, in a UNANIMOUS vote, the Volunteer Fire Chief’s said NO!
Houston County Parttime Commission Chairman, Brandon Shoupe, recently said the commission was going to direct deposit the checks to each of the 17 volunteer fire departments. The direct deposit matter was not discussed with the Volunteer Fire Chief Association or not publically with the County Commissioners. Just a decision of the Part Time – but paid full time Houston County Commission Chairman.
The reason the association is against, each fire chief comes to the associaiton meetings every month, they provide statisical data, discuss different issues and pick up their checks. The current funding is to the Fire Chief Association which then cuts the checks for each department. The Volunteer Fire Chief’s want to keep the system as it stands.
The part time – paid full time Chairman is always speaking about audits of the volunteer fire departments. Yet the part time – paid full time Chairman Brandon Shoupe needs to audit the commission because this commission has Houston County upside down almost $ 14 million dollars.
During the hurricane, the Houston County Commission did not get out and serve the citiznes. It was the volunteer Houston County Volunteer Fire Departments, law enforcement, EMS, and Road and Bridge serving the citizens. But the part time – paid full time Chairman does not give any of his six figures to help anyone in the voluteer and paid system to help others.
