DOTHAN: The 82nd National Peanut Festival opens this afternoon at the fairgrounds on U.S. 231 South. Get ready to enjoy all your favorite fair foods, games, exhibits, new events and an updated midway.

This year’s new attraction is the Skylift from Reithoffer Shows. Built on the fairgrounds, it will carry riders 40 feet above the festivities for an 11-minute ride. Skylift tickets are $6 one way and $9 round trip.

The festival draws large crowds every year, including seniors, children and those with limited mobility. Please keep in mind that a clear bag policy is in effect. For more information, visit NationalPeanutFestival.com.

Gate admission is $11, and children 5 and under are free with a paid adult admission. Armbands are $40 this evening.

An official ribbon cutting will be held at 6 p.m. at the main entrance.

With big crowds expected, drive carefully on your way to and from the fairgrounds, and watch for pedestrians, especially families with young children, in parking areas and along U.S. 231. Slow down, be patient, and enjoy the festival!
