Houston County Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound Assists in Life-Saving Search
On the morning of September 6, 2025, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team responded to a request for assistance from a neighboring county regarding a missing 75-year-old female with a significant medical history, including dementia. The woman had last been seen departing her residence at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Deputy Weeks and Corporal McKinney responded to the call with K-9 Colt, a tracking/trailing bloodhound. Upon arrival, K-9 Colt immediately began tracking from the residence. The track led down a long hill toward a pond and then onto a four-wheeler trail, where the team followed the scent for approximately one mile. Along the way, investigators noted scattered items consistent with the missing individual’s path.
After crossing a barbed-wire fence and maneuvering through a dry creek bed, K-9 Colt accelerated his pace, leading his handler to the missing woman. She was located seated on a log near the creek bed, approximately 10–15 yards from the trail. Local emergency personnel provided immediate medical attention, and the woman was safely reunited with her family.
K9 Colt received lots of love and an ice cream treat for his hard work!
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to serving the citizens of Houston County and providing assistance to neighboring jurisdictions whenever called upon.
