ASHFORD:      8:41 PM    Houston County 911 dispatched a train verses vehicle accident on old Highway 84 across from Summerford Pallet Company in Ashford.

Ashford and Headland had been playing football and the game was cancelled due to the weather. A mom and child were leaving the game when collided with the train.

Reports are a mother and child in the vehicle. There was entrappment. The patients were extricated and transported emergency, trauma alert, by Ashford Rescue.

Ashford Police Chief Melvin Anderson and members of Ashford Police Department, three ambulances from Ashford Rescue, and Ashford Fire were on the scene, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Kinsey Police Department.

Ashford Police are in charge of the accident investigation.

This accident was just east of the location of vehicle verses train earlier this week.

The injuries are reported not to be life threatening. Both patients were transported under trauma alert due to the mechanism of injuries.

Ashford City Councilman/Ashford Mayor Elect Blake Rosenkoetter was on the scene. After patients gone and things calmed down, Rosenkoetter, Ashford Police Chief Melvin Anderson and a member from the railroad were in a brief discussion of what could be done. This is the second accident in four days.

At the time of the accident there was a lot of activity. The ballgame had been called due to weather, there was bad weather and a lot fo movement from traffic.

REMEMBER – STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN before crossing a railroad. Also be aware you could think you are fully stopped but actually be creeping forward instead of stopped. Always be mindful when approaching railroad crossings. Not all have stop bars and that is the reason rules of the road are STOP – LOOK and LISTEN.
