ASHFORD: As Houston County residents head to the polls today, a few minor hiccups are being worked out along the way. But the message to voters remains simple: Get out and vote, make your voice heard, and make your vote count!

Earlier this morning at the Ashford polling location at Watermark East, election workers encountered a paper jam in one of the ballot machines. As the line of voters continued to grow, the ladies working at the polling place remained gracious, apologizing for the delay and contacting the help line to get the problem resolved.

Thankfully, voters remained patient and understanding. There were no angry words or complaints, just neighbors waiting for their opportunity to cast their ballots.

It’s a good reminder that the people working at our polling places are our neighbors, friends, mothers, grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers. They are there to help make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote, and they deserve our kindness and respect.

Technology doesn’t always cooperate, and sometimes little things go wrong. A little patience and understanding can go a long way.

So, as you make your way to the polls today, remember to be kind, be patient, and most importantly, VOTE!

Polls close at 7 p.m. Be sure to follow Rickey Stokes News after the polls close for updates throughout the evening as election results begin coming in.

Your voice matters. Your vote counts!
