ELBA: Many Wiregrass families are looking for fun things to do with the family this weekend. Marley Acres Petting Zoo is inviting families to celebrate the season with its Fall Festival, running on three consecutive Saturdays this month: October 17, 24, and 31. The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

The first Saturday is tomorrow, October 17th, giving families a chance to make plans on short notice.

Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children over age 2, according to event materials.

Festival-goers can pick their own pumpkins, meet and feed the zoo’s animals, and play games designed for kids. Organizers are also offering free face painting, and local vendors will be on site.

Event promotional materials show a camel, a monkey, a kangaroo and a llama among the animals visitors can expect to see, set against a backdrop of hay bales, pumpkins and autumn foliage.

The festival takes place at Marley Acres, 2536 Hickman Ave., in Elba.

With the last festival day landing on Halloween, families can wrap up the morning with a llama selfie, then head home in time to trade the petting zoo for the trick-or-treat circuit. Just be warned: the camel may be the only creature in Elba with a better “hump day” than the rest of us, and the monkey is rumored to have already picked out his costume.
