Faye was born December 23, 1941, in Alabaster, Alabama, to the late William Oliver “W.O.” and Mable Barnett Moore. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William Luther “Luke” Smith, and her brother, John Edward Moore.
Faye is survived by her four children, Mark Anthony Smith of Enterprise, Rhonda Faye Roberson (Gary) of Geneva, Linda Lynn Hartline of Enterprise, and Jason Matthew Smith (Kaci) of New Brockton; two sisters-in-law, Janice Moore of Sterrett, Alabama, and Dorothy Sandlin of Texas; one brother-in-law, James Smith (Barbara) of Enterprise; sixteen grandchildren, Breanna Fetters (Blake), Hope Smith (David Bowie), Brittanie Smith, Austin Roberson (Shannon), Kalep Roberson (Ashley), Cason Roberson (Courtney), Michael Connell, Shawn Hartline (Amber), Ben Hartline, Cara Lynn Silver (Dustin), Gracee Hartline, Mary Beth Williams (Grant), Matthew Smith, Mason Smith, Mitchell Smith, and Meredith Smith; eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way; her best friend for over 60 years, Ann Brinley; and many nieces and nephews.
At the age of 18 she married the love of her life, Luke Smith. Together they built a marriage so strong that it withstood many storms they weathered together. In the 1960s they moved to south Alabama where they worked together in the fertilizer business and as owners of the Geneva Stockyard. Faye and Luke were active members of the Alabama Cattleman’s Association, and she served as the President of the Cow Belles. Later they opened AFS Cars & Trucks and sold cars to people all around the tri-state area.
Although small in stature, Faye made a huge impact wherever life took her. She embodied what a true servant was. She was a devoted member of Trinity Church for over 25 years where she served in many capacities, and she loved her role as church secretary for 24 years. She played such a vital role at the church that many lovingly referred to her as “The Queen.”
Faye loved the Lord and served Him faithfully, she loved her family more than anything, and she loved the City of Geneva. She took great joy and pride in making Geneva a better place to live and work for the citizens here. She held various offices for the city, but her most treasured role was as the Executive Vice President of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce where she spent countless hours planning and organizing the Geneva Festival on the Rivers.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations can be made to Trinity Church of Geneva or to the ongoing mission work of her grandson, Kalep Roberson, and his family in Romania at www.gokmusa.org/donate (select “Roberson Family” from the list of missionaries).
Alice Faye Smith was a beautiful and gracious woman of God. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but the legacy she leaves will live on through the memories made with all those she loved and cared for.
