With heavy hearts and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of April Michelle Nettles, who was born on April 9, 1972, in Dothan, Alabama, to the late Willie Mae “Brown Suga” Pouncey and Joe “Raheem Abdullah” Russaw. She departed this earthly life on April 28, 2026, at Southeast Health with her loving family by her side.

April was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love and strength touched everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her warm spirit, her unwavering dedication to her family, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Willie Mae “Brown Suga” Pouncey and Joe “Raheem Abdullah” Russaw, her father-in-law Samuel Nettles, brother-in-law Wilbert Nettles, sister-in-law Libby Nettles and her cherished grandson, Tristan Coleman.

April leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Patrick Nettles; her children, Damon Coleman, Samira Jordan, Deshawn (YaLonda) Murry, and Ty’tiana (Patrick) Nettles, Jahmarion Lee-Bass. She also leaves behind her siblings, Natasha Pouncey, Shawn (Nicole) Pouncey, Christopher Pouncey, Darrane Moultry, Bobby Smith, Kimbley (Wanda) Russaw, and Tamir (Kasheama) Bryant, Shania Teague; her mother in love Mary Nettles, siblings in law; Teresa, Ethel, Robert, Ray, Mary Ann, Angel, Carrie, Joseph, Allison, Yolanda.

Her legacy continues through her adored grandchildren: Zacharias, Janiliyah, Treshawn, Domani, Deshawn Jr., Amari, and Damir.

She is also survived by her special cousin, more like a sister, Toyee Russaw, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

April Michelle Nettles’ life was a beautiful reflection of love, resilience, and family. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of April’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home. She will laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, 2026 at the funeral home from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
