Did you know that the Dothan area is home to a world-class magician?
Hal Saxon is an award-winning, family-friendly magician who has taught magicians worldwide.
Here is an interview with Hal you might find interesting.
How did you get your start in magic?
Like many, I received a kid’s magic kit as a gift. I received that gift from my grandmother over fifty years ago. As a seven-year-old, I was enthralled by magic tricks and still am.
What type of magic do you do?
I perform thought-provoking, family-friendly, and fun magic. My shows are primarily close-up magic and magic effects, perfect for audiences of a few people to a few hundred. And no, I do not perform dark magic, swallow swords, eat fire, or cut ladies in half.
Tell me about your kids’ magic shows.
I perform at kids’ birthday parties, school assemblies, library shows, town festivals, churches, and fairs. With kids’ magic shows, I want to create a fun and memorable experience. I want to have kids and adults say, “Wait. What just happened?”
Kids’ birthday parties sound fun. Tell me about those.
Birthday party magic shows create a fun and unforgettable experience. I place the spotlight on my magician’s assistant, which is the birthday child. I’ll even invite some of the other kids to participate in the show. I can add a unique and memorable element to the party, creating excitement and anticipation. I also relieve the parents of the stress of organizing entertainment and ensures that both children and adults can enjoy the wow factor of mind-boggling illusions. Children’s birthday parties are usually held in homes, backyards, or local parks.
Can you explain the difference between kids’ magic and magic for teens and adults?
Children’s magic tricks are designed to be colorful, funny, and captivating for younger audiences. They often involve simple props, bright colors, and comedic elements to engage and entertain children. The focus is on creating a sense of wonder.
There is more to my shows than just creating laughter and smiles. I like to weave a positive message into my shows. My tricks and illusions foster curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. It also serves as a platform to promote important messages, such as the value of kindness, the consequences of bullying, or the importance of perseverance. With corporate keynotes or trade shows, the message is aligned with the business needs.
You said you teach magicians worldwide. Tell me about that.
I have a lot of fun teaching close-up magic tricks and effects to magicians. I have written 28 books and magic training courses sold in over 65 countries and all 50 states. I provide valuable knowledge and techniques to aspiring magicians, helping them improve their skills and create amazing magic effects.
You were voted Magician of the Year. Tell me about that.
I was voted Close-up Magician of the Year for 2023 by a large group of professional magicians for my work as a magic creator and author.
Now is the time to book Hal for your fall festivals and civic events as well.
