DOTHAN: 11:44 AM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Fire, Pilcher Ambulance and Dothan Police to a structure fire located at 1360 North Range Street.
A single story, duplex, residential structure with reports to Dothan 911 flames visible on the back porch.
Fire Engine Companies responding to the scene, Dothan Fire Engine Company 1 ( Central ), Fire Engine Company 5 ( Eastside ), Fire Engine Company 9 ( Technology Drive ), Squad 1 ( Central ), Rehab and Battalion Chief Ash. Also responding Pilcher Ambulance and Dothan Police Patrol Division.
At 12:16 PM the temperature guage on my truck shows 101 degrees.
On arrival of the first Dothan Fire Engine Company they reported this is aworking structure fire, a lot of smoke showing. This is an offensive attack.
Dothan Fire Engine Company connected to a fire hydrant at North Range Street and Webb Road and laid the 5 inch water lines past Alabama Avenue to connect to the primary fire engine pumper.
Dothan Police Patrol took the female home occupant and her children placing them inside the Dothan Police Patrol vehicle where they were able to remain cool while the fireman battled the fire.
It did not take the Dothan Fire crews long to get the fire under control.
Dothan 911 staff, Dothan Fire, Pilcher Ambulance and Dothan Police did a great job. Dothan Police Patrol did a super job in taking care of the victim's of the fire in keeping them cool and immediate needs met.
Dothan Fire REHAB, assisted by Pilcher Ambulance crew on the scene, took care of the fireman and kept them hydrated and cool.
Dothan Fire Prevention Officer responded. Dothan Utilities, an important part of the first responder network, responded to the scene to cut the power.
NOTE: THANKFULLY - no one was injured. The response of Pilcher Ambulance ( or any ambulance in the county ) is to make sure no one is injured on arrival and to remain on the scene to make sure no one is injured during the battle of the fire. There is no one to bill for responding and services to help keep the fireman hydrated and safe. This is a FREE CALL which all EMS units perform when at a structure fire. They are not paid.
Dothan Fire Battalion Chief Ash has requested Red Cross respond to meet one single mother and two children's immediate needs for the next couple of days while they re-focus on clothes, food and shelter.
