BARBOUR COUNTY:     Barbour and Bullock County are under one Circuit. And the Circuit has one Circuit Judge, Bert Smithart.

Judge Smithart only allows one bail bonding company to operate. Which hurts the citizens because they pay the price charged or the person remains in the Barbour County Jail. Judge Smitharts actions and lack of being truthful brings into question his honesty and integrity.

And we have found that Judge Smithart is not truthful to his word in some dealings with him since November 2021.

But that aside … RSN is investigating two stories in the Barbour County Court system. One is a possible recent arrest of a Eufaula Police Officer. We know a search warrant was conducted on a Criminal Investigator’s home with Eufaula Police Department. If that arrest has been made, and we understand the one bail bonding company Smithart allows to operate made the bond, the case to date has not been entered into the court system.

Another story we are following is a possible herion overdose this weekend in Eufaula. A male and female in townhouses on the road like going to Georgetown, Georgia. The townhouses are reported to be paid for by the hospital in Eufaula. On Tuesday evening RSN reached out to Eufaula Mayor Jack Tibbs via cell phone. There was no answer and his voice mail prevented messages from being left.

RSN then reached out to the Hospital Administrator in Eufaula. He declined to comment. 

RSN has contacted Channel 9 out of Columbus to team up and assist in investigating these arrests and their not being listed in the court system, if in fact arrest have been made. Also investigating the highly unusual practices of the only Circuit Court Judge for Barbour and Bullock Counties, Judge Bert Smithart.

Smithart serves as president of the Alabama Judge’s Association also. 

Messages for Judge Smithart have been left with the Circuit Clerk, his Judicial Assistant, email, attempts to reach by phone in the office, attempts to reach by cell phone and by text messages. To date no response since Thanksgiving 2021.

The Circuit Clerk appears honest and has integrity and so does the Barbour County Sheriff.
