HOUSTON - HENRY COUNTY: 12:43 PM. This morning at 11:05 AM Assistant District Attorney Mark Johnson was arrested after turning himself into the Houston County Jail.
Johnson, a former Houston County Sheriff Deputy, went to law school and obtained his law degree. Johnson entered private practice after law school.
Several years later in private practice Johnson was hired by then 20th Judicial Circuit Court District Attorney Doug Valeska as an Assistant Prosecutor.
After Valeska’s retirement and Pat Jones became District Attorney Johnson remained as a prosecutor.
Several months ago a female defendant made accusations against Johnson. After several news reports of the allegations District Attorney Pat Jones placed Johnson on paid Administrative Leave and an investigation was launched.
Today Mark Johnson was booked into the Houston County Jail at 11:05 AM and released on six $ 30,000.00 property bonds at 12:22 PM.
Each of the six offenses are Soliciting For The Purpose Of Corruptly Influencing Official Action.
These are Grand Jury indictments. It is expected all Circuit Judges of the 20th Judicial Circuit will recuses themselves from these cases. The Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court will appoint a Judge to hear the cases. The Alabama Attorney General’s Office will be the prosecutor of the cases.
At this time we do not know if Johnson is on Administrative Leave with pay, without pay, terminated or resigned.
