ABBEVILLE - HENRY COUNTY: Abbeville Police stopped a red car with Coffee County license plateson Highway 431on the northside of Abbeville.
The Abbeville Police Officer encountered the person who quickly became disorderly. Abbeville Police Chief Marlos Walker responded backing up the officer.
The Abbeville Officer and Chief Walker encountered and deployed a tazer. The driver of the car took off. Now all of this started happening while the driver was stopped.
The officers began to pursue. As the violater approached traffic, while traveling north, the driver changed to the south bound lane, still traveling north. The Abbeville Officer and Abbeville Police Chief Walker remained in the northbound lane of traffic.
Henry County Sheriff Deputies were responding to the scene.
At mile marker 45 on Highway 431, a south bound Chevrolet Suburban and the suspect fleeing hit head on. Major damage to both vehicles.
Henry County Central 911 dispatched Abbeville Fire - Rescue, Shorterville Fire - Rescue, Headland Fire - Rescue ( Ambulance only ), auto launched Survival Flight, and Henry County Emergency Management Director Matt Hatcher ( who is also a Paramedic ).
A off duty Dothan Paramedic was in Abbeville when the accident occurred and responded and assisted.
Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship responded.
ALEA - Troopers responded and ALEA Trooper Sapp is in charge of the accident investigation. Henry County Sheriff Deputies followed the ambulance to the hospital in Dothan that transported the person responsible for the accident. So if the hospital in Dohan goes on lock down that is why.
Abbeville Rescue two ambulances and Headland Ambulance transported a total of four patients, one critical. Survival Flight did not fly any patient from the scene.
The officers were doing their best to stop the suspect and get ahead to stop southbound traffic but remaining in the northbound lane of traffic.
Abbeville Police Chief Marlos Walker thanked all who responded, law enforcement, fire and EMS and that assisted.
