DOTHAN:    The hiring trend for department heads by Dothan City Manager Mike West has not been real good during his tenure.

When John White retired as Dothan Police Chief the City Manager stated the hire of the Police Chief "was his most important hire". And boy did he mess that one up. He hired a man from Pensacola Florida who royally screwed up the Dothan Police Department. That hire was a FLOP in Mike West "most important hire'.

Next Mike West hired Greg Benton as Police Chief. A Dothan native but Benton just could  not handle the pressures of the job. 

Finally Dothan City Manager Mike West got it right when he hired Steve Parrish as Dothan's Police Chief. It took West 3 times to get the most important hire RIGHT.

Then West took over four years to hire a Dothan Information Technology Director. He hired Jack Mason. And so far West has screwed that hire up. Mason lives in Jackson County Florida and commutes back and forth to Dothan every day. Recently there were problems in IT on the weekend. No IT staff could get into the Dothan Civic Center to repair the problem. They had to call the Dothan Fire Department in order to get them to let the IT staff into the Civic Center to repair the emergency IT outage. The department head lived to far away.

Mason is going to be like Mike West "most important hire" in his first Police Chief, not good for Dothan and a flop!

PERFORMING ARTS DIRECTOR

West has apparently gotten right the employment of Marshall Perry as Performing Arts Director.

Perry is in charge of the Dothan Civic Center and Dothan Opera House. In watching those facilities something appears to always be going on.

Perry is a quiet man and stand off type of person. He does not say much and a person hard to get to know. But his job performance speaks for itself.

This past week my daughter, Emily, took our grandson Brantley to see PAW PATROL. Now I do not know what PAW PATROL is. But what I do know was two nights they sold out of tickets. Even VIP tickets so guests could meet the stars.

Brantley had a great time even though he could not meet the stars of the show. All sold out! He talked about it afterwards and had a great time.

Marshall Perry is doing a good job in bringing entertainment to the Dothan Civic Center and Opera House.  Something Dothan needed.

And congratulations to Mike West. This hire was good for Dothan and the improvement of entertainment.

Now fix your hire of Dothan's Information Technology Director. Send him back to Jackson County...before he too screws Dothan up like your first "most important hire" AKA flop".
