DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY: The Executive Director of the Alabama 9-1-1 Board recognized the very fine men and women of the City of Dothan - Houston County Communications 911 Centers for their work on Wednesday.
Executive Director Leah Missildine of the Alabama 9-1-1 Board made the following comments on FACEBOOK: “Early analysis shows that the Houston County/Dothan Public Safety Answering Point ( PSAP ) became the busiest PSAP in Alabama yesterday ( Wednesday ). Other PSAP’S in that region saw five times their ”normal” call volume during Hurricane Michael’s landfall or approximately 1,000 additional 9-1-1 calls on Wednesday for the southeastern region of Alabama. Great job by all and great support by our partner, INdigital”.
The City of Dothan-Houston County Communications District Board ( 911 ) is compromised of a nine member board: Steve Parrish - Board Chairman; Larry Williams - Board Treasurer; Board Members; Jeff Carlisle, Jimmy Posey, Chris Judah, Joey Pilcher, Jason Rudd, Randy Morris, and Rickey Stokes. The 911 Director is Holly Brittan.
This board makes decision on technology and equipment and some policies.
The actual “boots on the ground”, 911 Communications Officers are divided into two groups:
Dothan Police 911 which answers 911 calls and dispatches for Dothan Police and Dothan Fire. They are are also strapped with handling Dothan Utilities. This group is under the command of Dothan Police Captain Bubba Ott and ultimately Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish.
Houston County Sheriff 911 which answers 911 calls and dispatches for all Houston County Sheriff Deputies, all 17 Houston County Volunteer Fire, 5 Volunteer EMS and 1 paid EMS, and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management. This group is under the command of Houston County Sheriff Captain James Ivey and ultimately Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza.
The actual City of Dothan-Houston County Communications District Board does not manage the day to day, boots on the ground, system for 911. They manage infrastructure, own the facilities, provide equipment and set some policies.
HATS OFF to the men and women of both the Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff 911 Center.
What an awesome job in a tremendous stressful situation. And you came through with flying colors.
