LEE COUNTY: On February 9th 2021, Lee County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested D’Mario Jones (27) of Columbus, Georgia on two (2) counts of Promoting Prison Contraband 1st Degree. Mr. Jones was formerly employed as a Corrections Officer with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The actions resulting in the charges occurred while Jones was a full time employee at the Sheriff’s Office and assigned to a shift in the Lee County Detention Center. Jones’ bond has been set at $10,000. Evidence indicates that Jones, on multiple occasions, was providing cell phones and related equipment to an inmate and in return was receiving payments from family members of the inmate. The investigation is continuing and the arrests of other involved individuals is expected. Detention Center operations involve constant monitoring of security procedures and protocols. Diligence on the part of other Corrections Officers played a significant role in the detection of Jones’ actions and identification of other involved persons.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones comments: “ As public safety officers, we all take an oath to provide for the preservation of law and the protection of our community. When we discover that someone in our ranks has broken that oath, it is our duty to act swiftly and decisively in a fair manner to remove that person and hold them accountable. Anything less would be a disservice to the vast majority of law enforcement officers who display professionalism and integrity every day and an affront to the citizens we serve.”

Anyone with information about this case or any other associated cases is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
