A celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Columbia 1st Baptist Church with Rev. Van Cooley officiating. Delories will be laid to rest in Ashford City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1-2 pm.
Delories Long Posey, a resident of Ashford, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness. She was 76 years old.
Delories was born on February 1, 1947 in Iowa and lived there the early years of her life. She moved to the Wiregrass area when she was 8 years old and was a 1965 graduate of Dothan High School. Delories met and married the love of her life, Jimmy Posey, and they have been married for the passed 57 years. She was the first certified female volunteer firefighter in Houston County and had a true heart for serving others. Delories was proud to be known as Maw and Granny. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and showed her love to them by cooking and being present always supportive to family and friends. Special occasion dinners were her favorite, she prepared old fashioned dishes like fruit cakes, red velvet cakes, and homemade dressing. Delories was a bit stubborn at times, a best friend to anyone she met, and always told it like it was. She was a member of Cedar Springs Church and attended Columbia 1st Baptist Church. Delories was a wonderful mother-in-law, who treated her son’s wives like they were her own daughters. She loved to travel and especially loved going to the mountains, Gatlinburg and Yellowstone were among her favorite adventures. .
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Jimmy Posey; her sons, Jimmy (Tammi) Posey, Jr. and Jeff (Michele) Posey; her grandchildren including, Janie Posey and Marcus (Lynnette) Posey; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and a special furry friend, Jake (Roo Roo).
