This past week uncertainty was created with the COVID-19 virus. That uncertainty has grown each day. With this growth of uncertainty has come opportunities.
Each day more and more venues, restaurants, are closing and/or limiting their dining room access. The restaurants are only opening the drive thru for service.
Guess what you do not see in the drive thru? A semi truck.
Tonight I went to Denny's Restaurant and on the door was the following sign: "...to be extra safe, we ( Denny's Restaurant ) are temporarily converting this location to take out and delivery only".
Then looked at Wendy's Restaurant and the sign also reads the dining room is closed. A peak through the window reveals no tables or chairs except for the built in booths.
Eufaula Police posted on their FACEBOOK the need for everyone to think outside the box and remedy the situations we did not forsee.
Eufaula Police has realized truck drivers have the need to take off. By law they can only drive a certain number of hours before they are required by law to stop. It is becoming more and more difficult for the truck drivers to eat.
Eufaula Police Department will assist the truck driving friends find places to eat. Eufaula Police Department will go get something to eat for the truck driving friends and bring to them or deliver the driver to a restaurant if they do not mind riding in the backseat.
If no officers are available because of call volume Eufaula Police will secure someone that will.
This country can not exist without the trucking industry. The truck have to run in order for shelves to be stocked with supplies, food and items needed.
We appreciate Eufaula Police Chief taking the initiative to help the truckers in providing for the country.
This also is a reminder to other areas. Look for areas of service for the community. This truck driving opportunity of service that has been presented and people stepping up to the plate to meet this need is taking care of those who serve our country.
TO THE TRUCK DRIVING FRIENDS.... you often times are overlooked and not ever thought of. Eufaula Police Chief's actions, this health emergency, has made me realize just how important each of you are to the United States of America.
Without you, what would this country do?
THANK YOU.
