It Has Been 13 Years And Each Year I Get A Phone Call

DOTHAN:    Today I received a phone call asking me, do you remember what happened today, 13 years ago? My reply was, no, I do not remember what happened this morning and not good at guessing games.

Well it was a young man which calls me every March 1. And he has called every year not for 13 years.

I was in Regions Bank 13 years ago on March 1. We heard a loud noise and I looked out the window and saw a Corvette wrapped around the light pole.

From the bank myself, Michelle Ashworth of Regions and Jaqulyn King of Regions all ran outside and to the car. The driver was pinned in the Corvette and his seat belt was choking him.

Someone gave me something and I cut the seat belt. Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance were called along with Dothan Police. They took over and began working on him and began procedures to extricate him from the wreckage.

The young man was pretty broken up ( bones ). He was in the hospital several days and when released required a hospital bed at his house. Now, other then scares and perhaps a limp, he does good.

But he never fails to call me each year and say, just wanted to say it has been another year, 13 of them now, and again want to say THANK YOU for what you did.

The cause of the accident was someone changed lanes abruptly which caused him to swerve. The car spun and caught the pole wrapping the Corvette around the pole.
