Fighting violent crime, not necessarily electronic gambling, is and will remain a priority for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said Friday.
Earlier this week, Bessemer Cutoff District Attorney Lynneice Washington sent cease and desist letters to two bingo halls – Super Highway Bingo on Bessemer Superhighway and Fun-N-Games in Brighton – on the grounds that the businesses are operating illegally. As of Friday, both were still up and running and the parking lot was packed midday at Super Highway Bingo.
This is hard to believe...
A Sheriff who actually realizes what is most important, unlike the previous Sheriff of Jefferson County, Mike Hale.
Pettaway defeated five term incumbent Sheriff Hale.
You see, Birmingham "IS" the murder capital of Alabama. Former Sheriff Hale never understood the Sheriff is the Chief law enforcement officer of Jefferson County. And former Sheriff Hale never realized that Birmingham was in Jefferson County, not Jefferson County in Birmingham.
Sheriff Pettaway apparently realizes the murder rate in Birmingham and the focus needs to be more on stopping the violence and solving the murder cases. And apparently the District Attorney does not realize that.
So much money has been wasted on this junk and nothing ever resolved. If the Alabama Legislature would have done their job and dealt with this issue and Steve Marshall, Luther Strange and Bob Riley had not wasted so much money on this issue, then guess what?
Perhaps Governor Ivey and the Alabama Legislature might not have had to steal the gas tax from your pockets.
Apparently the new Jefferson County Sheriff has his head in the right place and not where former Sheriff Mike Hale had his head stuck.
