HABERSHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA: A Georgia man was recently arrested by the U.S. Marshals for a crime he committed in Alabama.
In 2021, Herbert Earcell Slater was arrested on two counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 and one count of sexual abuse.
Slater entered a plea deal by pleading guilty on all three counts in May; he received a ten-year sentence.
While he was out on bond, Slater was supposed to report to the Coffee County Jail in June to start his sentence on June 2, but he failed to show up. A Coffee County judge then put out a warrant for his arrest.
On July 31, he was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Georgia in Habersham County. He is now in the Habersham County Jail and is listed as a fugitive from justice.
He will soon be extradited to the Coffee County jail.
