Dothan (WTVY)-- Former National Peanut Festival Queen Whitney Devane is in critical condition at a Birmingham hospital.
On her Facebook page, Debra Devane said her daughter suffers from brain swelling and the prognosis is not good. She requests prayer.
Whitney was crowed NPF Queen in 2012. She attended Troy University and then worked in the banking industry.
Both Debra and Stan, Whitney’s father, retired from the Dothan Police Department. He later became chief in Elberta, Alabama.
This is not the first tragedy the Devane family has endured. In 2017, Stan suffered injuries in a horse riding accident and was hospitalized in Colorado for several weeks.
A candlelight vigil for Whitney is planned Tuesday at 6 pm at the Wiregrass Angel of Hope memorial next to the public library at Westgate Park.
