SARCOA Meal Fit For A ???

ALABAMA - WIREGRASS - HOUSTON COUNTY - HALEBURG: Two issues to cover in this article:

(1) SARCOA - Southeast Alabama Regional Council On Aging, located in Houston County on Highway 605. They provide meals for our senior adults and home bound senior adults. Meals are provided through Senior Citizens Centers. They also have strict rules for the Senior Citizens Center. Picture 1 is the meal they are providing.

Area Mayors, at the town’s expense, have gone out and purchased meals for the seniors refusing to feed them such. The SARCOA meals have even included powdered milk.

SARCOA’S excuse, according to sources, their vendor has not gotten their food permit yet. The vendor is located behind Texas Road House on Redmond Road. Pictures 2 and 3 are the new vendor’s building.

SARCOA’S excuse is there was a challenge to their vendor which delayed the project.

SARCOA’S rule to the Senior Citizen’s Center, as we understand, staff not allowed to help the seniors open the cans. Hope the seniors don’t have arthritis!

Thanks to area municipalities for doing what SARCOA is suppose to do. Provide “quality” meals to our seniors.

(2) HALEBURG in Henry County is a municipality. I always thought it was just a community. HALEBURG was incorporated Septembet 1912. They have a Mayor and City Council. Less than four square miles and 2010 census less than 100 people.

SARCOA web site reads Senior Citizen’s Center in HALEBURG is closed. Some say it closed this past Friday. Last week sent email contact card from SARCOA web site. No response.

We are told it is possibly closed because of mismanagement from a HALEBURG government official family member. Financial mismanagement. Not been able to verify as of yet.

At the time of closing the Center manager IS NOT the one in question. The one before.

Went by HALEBURG Town Hall. Closed. Mayor and several council persons were not home. Working to find out the truth.
