DALEVILLE - ENTERPRISE: Today was the last edition of the Southeast Sun and Daleville Sun-Courier.
In a column written by Caroline Quattlebaum, Co-Publisher, "The COVID pandemic finally claimed another victim, your local newspaper."
The Southeast Sun began in May 1982 followed by the Daleville Sun-Courier in 1986 by Howard Quattlebaum. According to the article by Ms. Quattlebaum, her father Howard passed away in 2004 leaving the reins of the business to Ms. Quattlebaum and her brother Russell.
The newspaper industry depends on advertising. When COVID cut the supply chains and the economy was shut down with COVID, the printed newspaper, already a struggling industry before COVID, was sent into a tailspin.
With businesses unable to run ads with the newspapers leaving Southeast Sun and Daleville Sun-Courier unable to replace staff has left them unable to continue under current conditions.
Ms. Quattlebaum gave public thanks to Michelle Mann, Debbie Mock, Slayton Shaw, Bill Herrin, Denese Dixon and Angie Mock for hanging in there with them until the end. Also thanks was given to Donnie Griswold who has been with the business since September 1983 and has never missed a Wedmesday circulation. Ms. Quattlebaum wrote about Griswold stating "We couldn't have asked for a more layal carrier".
They thank Enterprise, New Brocton, and Daleville for letting them tell their stories. They thank the businesses who made it possible for them to publish every week for over 40 years.
Southeast Sun and Daleville Sun-Courier - CLOSED.
RSN hates to see any business close. Thanks to the Quattlebaum's and all of the staff that made things happen. Wish each of you good luck as one chapter closes and other chapter's in life opens.
